"...Immersion Theatre will fast become a force to be reckoned with within the industry"
Immersion Theatre is a professional theatre production company founded by James Tobias and Rachel Cartlidge who are dedicated to producing accessible, high quality theatre. Inspired by a range of genres and styles, we strive to be innovative in the way we present our productions, relying on the caliber of the performances and sheer creativity in order to fully immerse our audience. Focusing predominantly, though not exclusively, on classic texts, we enjoy exploring the dark and tragic elements of each piece and creating unique and original theatre by incorporating music and movement. Immersion's aim is to become a rep company who is able to use the same actors in different productions with whom the audience can build a relationship with.
"Immersion Theatre's production meets its desire to be accessible and to place the audience at the heart of the experience...Keep an eye on them"-Broadway World (Gary Naylor)
For their debut production, Immersion presented a five star-rated, modern interpretation of the Oscar Wilde classic, The Importance of Being Earnest in the main house of The Courtyard Theatre with the direction and cast receiving rave reviews. Since then, Immersion have focused on presenting some of Shakespeare's classics in a fresh and original light including a Taming of the Shrew set in 1960's gangland Hackney, a sinister Much Ado About Nothing set in the Spanish Civil War and Julius Caesar which was set in a gothic, post-apocalyptic bohemia. They have been nominated for two Off West End Awards and were recently asked to revive their inaugural production of The Importance of Being Earnest at The Kenton Theatre in Henley-on-Thames, the fourth oldest working theatre in the country. Immersion are thrilled to be opening their 2013 season with the UK Premiere of Dorothy in Oz at The Waterloo East Theatre.
